My services can be divided into three categories: editing, translation and revision, and proofreading. They are listed below, accompanied by a summary description of what each one entails.
Each service corresponds to a specific stage in the editorial process involving the transformation of a manuscript into a book.
I attach great importance to the preliminary assessment of the manuscript, in order to define, together with the client, the type and level of intervention required.
I also work closely with the author, translator and publishing house to resolve any doubts and questions and ensure editorial alignment.

Editing
Macro editing (in English):
reorganisation of textual material, resolution of specific issues related to the content, structure or language (systematic rewriting, adaptation to target audience), in close collaboration with the author.
Copy editing (in English):
resolution of inconsistencies and repetition, rephrasing or simplification of unclear or involuted sentences, correction of spelling and grammar, changes to vocabulary and sentence structure to improve clarity, coherence and fluency, application of editorial guidelines and house style, standardisation of text-specific editorial decisions, resolution of inconsistencies between recurring or related elements (eg. dates, names, verb tenses, titles) and textual and non-textual elements, checking and cross-referencing of bibliographical references. The service includes direct contact with the author to resolve issues and for the approval substantial changes.
Language editing (in English):
correction of spelling and grammar, changes to vocabulary and sentence structure to improve the clarity, coherence and fluency of the text. This service includes direct contact with the author to resolve issues and for the approval of substantial changes.
Non-language editing (in English and Italian):

Translation and revision
Translation (from Italian into English):

Translation revision (in English and Italian):
checking for accuracy by comparing the source text with the translation, pointing out inconsistencies and inaccuracies, correcting errors of translation and linguistic calques, formulation of doubts and proposals for changes to be shared with the translator through the publishing house, correction of spelling and grammar, application of editorial rules and house style.

Proofreading is like descending after a climb: it is the last stage of the editorial process, but it requires no less attention and care. You need to keep your eyes up and tread carefully to avoid stumbling.
